What Are The Benefits Of Pilates?

Starting a Pilates practice has many benefits for health and fitness. Increased strength and toning of muscles are the greatest benefits but greater overall fitness and core strength are also great benefits of Pilates. Combining a Yoga practice with some Pilates training increases the benefits of Yoga and Pilates such a centeredness, reduced stress, and greater fitness. People who have reduced strength due to illness or medical reasons that prevent them from performing regular exercise can derive great benefits from both Yoga and Pilates but some Yoga poses can be too hard for people who are not used to exercising. The advantage of doing Pilates over Yoga is that even an absolute beginner can comfortably do modified Pilates exercises and get the benefits of Pilates from the very time that they do the Pilates excercises.

Is It Better To Do Pilates At Home Or In A Studio?

The benefit of Pilates are the same whether done at home to a DVD or in a Yoga or Pilates studio or a Pilates class. Since different Pilates instructors have different methods, someone with special needs might find it to their advantage to take a class from someone who teaches a particular Pilates method that caters to their special needs, but those people without any special fitness needs can get huge benefits from Pilates whether done at home or in a class. People who don’t have a lot of time or don’t feel comfortable in a gym environment might feel more comfortable working out with a Pilates dvd at home but also might worry that they are not getting as good a workout as they would get attending a class at a gym or fitness center but it’s just as easy to get an effective Pilates workout at home. A workout is good because of the intensity that goes into it, not because of where it’s performed. Anyone who puts effort into a workout can get an effective Pilates workout at home using a DVD without the hassle of traffic or driving to the gym. Be careful though, when using a DVD to workout at home it’s easy to make excuses not to workout, and that is not an effective way to get fit. Developing a regular Pilates practice will have many benefits, including greater core strength, better muscle tone, losing inches of fat from problem areas like hips and the waist, and better posture.
